Robotics-Smart Robots and Sensors (Unit 2)
Robotics Design and Programming (for grades 5&6) Learn to different sensors (e.g. ultrasonic, color, light, gyro, touch, etc.) to make a smart robot to sense distance from objects, color of an object, brightness/darkness, rotation, impact. We will be using Lego EV3 Mindstorms set.

Yoga Tales classes have a perfect balance of fun, energetic activities, and calm relaxing practices. Music, stories, and games help students get familiar with yoga in a supportive and relaxed setting. Learn to play the game of chess! This is for players that want to learn new strategies and ways to win as well as other chess “secrets”. Beginners are also welcome (those that do not know how to play at all). You will learn all the basic moves of the chess pieces, their values, piece interaction, and how to win (checkmate). Chess is a fascinating game, which can be played and enjoyed at all levels. Educational research indicates evidence of a strong positive correlation between chess and student academic performance. The practical application of the skills learned while playing chess are the same skills necessary for academic excellence and lifelong success:
Instructor Bio: David Aldi is a professional scholastic chess instructor working with hundreds of children ranging in age from 4 to 17 years old in many CT communities over the past 15 years including Greenwich, Fairfield, Glastonbury, West Hartford, Ellington, Torrington, Naugatuck, Southbury, Somers, Madison, Rocky Hill, and Wethersfield. He works with children in public, parochial, and private school environments; home school co-ops; private home-based groups, and private one-on-one instruction venues. He's also ranked in the upper 9% of adult tournament level players and sits on the Board of Directors of the CT State Chess Association as the CT State Scholastic Chess Administrator.

If you have a passion for fashion and want to learn how to design and draw beautiful fashion images - this is the class for you! Students will build a basic art and design foundation including figure and facial proportions, light sources and shading, color theory, style details and fabric textures. Students begin by learning the basics of fashion rendering and illustration, as well as learning fun facts about famous fashion designers and fashion history. Class minimum of 5, maximum of 12.
Instructor Bio: College student and fashionista Stefanie Baechler has been passionate about art since primary school. She has been instructing youth classes and arts adventures programs at the Farmington Valley Arts Center for a year and is pursuing a degree in Art Education. She loves working with pen and ink, as well as clay and watercolor.

Learn to play the game of chess! This is for players that want to learn new strategies and ways to win as well as other chess “secrets”. Beginners are also welcome (those that do not know how to play at all). You will learn all the basic moves of the chess pieces, their values, piece interaction, and how to win (checkmate). Chess is a fascinating game, which can be played and enjoyed at all levels. Educational research indicates evidence of a strong positive correlation between chess and student academic performance. The practical application of the skills learned while playing chess are the same skills necessary for academic excellence and lifelong success:
Instructor Bio: David Aldi is a professional scholastic chess instructor working with hundreds of children ranging in age from 4 to 17 years old in many CT communities over the past 15 years including Greenwich, Fairfield, Glastonbury, West Hartford, Ellington, Torrington, Naugatuck, Southbury, Somers, Madison, Rocky Hill, and Wethersfield. He works with children in public, parochial, and private school environments; home school co-ops; private home-based groups, and private one-on-one instruction venues. He's also ranked in the upper 9% of adult tournament level players and sits on the Board of Directors of the CT State Chess Association as the CT State Scholastic Chess Administrator.

If you have a passion for fashion and want to learn how to design and draw beautiful fashion images - this is the class for you! Students will build a basic art and design foundation including figure and facial proportions, light sources and shading, color theory, style details and fabric textures. Students begin by learning the basics of fashion rendering and illustration, as well as learning fun facts about famous fashion designers and fashion history. Class minimum of 5, maximum of 12.
Instructor Bio: College student and fashionista Stefanie Baechler has been passionate about art since primary school. She has been instructing youth classes and arts adventures programs at the Farmington Valley Arts Center for a year and is pursuing a degree in Art Education. She loves working with pen and ink, as well as clay and watercolor.

Learn to play the game of chess! This is for players that want to learn new strategies and ways to win as well as other chess “secrets”. Beginners are also welcome (those that do not know how to play at all). You will learn all the basic moves of the chess pieces, their values, piece interaction, and how to win (checkmate). Chess is a fascinating game, which can be played and enjoyed at all levels. Educational research indicates evidence of a strong positive correlation between chess and student academic performance. The practical application of the skills learned while playing chess are the same skills necessary for academic excellence and lifelong success:
Instructor Bio: David Aldi is a professional scholastic chess instructor working with hundreds of children ranging in age from 4 to 17 years old in many CT communities over the past 15 years including Greenwich, Fairfield, Glastonbury, West Hartford, Ellington, Torrington, Naugatuck, Southbury, Somers, Madison, Rocky Hill, and Wethersfield. He works with children in public, parochial, and private school environments; home school co-ops; private home-based groups, and private one-on-one instruction venues. He's also ranked in the upper 9% of adult tournament level players and sits on the Board of Directors of the CT State Chess Association as the CT State Scholastic Chess Administrator.
The actual registration must be done through EventKeeper by 1/4 (first come first serve basis), but please cut out and return the form below (with $198.00 check) on or before the first day of class. Instructor: Stefanie Baechler, Farmington Valley Arts Center
If you have a passion for fashion and want to learn how to design and draw beautiful fashion images - this is the class for you! Students will build a basic art and design foundation including figure and facial proportions, light sources and shading, color theory, style details and fabric textures. Students begin by learning the basics of fashion rendering and illustration, as well as learning fun facts about famous fashion designers and fashion history. Class minimum of 5, maximum of 12.
Instructor Bio: College student and fashionista Stefanie Baechler has been passionate about art since primary school. She has been instructing youth classes and arts adventures programs at the Farmington Valley Arts Center for a year and is pursuing a degree in Art Education. She loves working with pen and ink, as well as clay and watercolor.

It's time to get some of that creative energy down on paper. This is an art class that will work with a variety of mediums including acrylics, chalk and oil pastels, watercolors and stamping. Students will come away with some fantastic pieces of art.

Farmington Farms Tennis & Athletic Club offers a comprehensive and progressive junior tennis program for juniors interested in learning tennis. Our professionals are all certified instructors who enjoy teaching and sharing their knowledge and love of tennis.
The USTA has instituted the red, orange and green ball system for learning on a smaller court progressing to a regular size court. The benefit of this system is that it allows children to learn and enjoy the game quickly.
Minimum 6 kids, Maximum 16 kids with 2 instructors

We will participate in 5 Olympiad Contests, testing our mathematical strength against 6000 teams world-wide!
