POSTPONED UNTIL THE FALL!!!!

This three-part series has been postponed until Monday, October 30, November 6, and November 13 from 6-7:30 pm due to an unanticipated scheduling conflict with the facilitator.  It will be held in the Swanker Room In October.  Those who signed up for this workshop will be notified about the cancellation, and their names will remain on the list for the October dates.

Facilitated by Brian Phillip Whalen

In these sessions for novice or experienced writers, we’ll learn how prose poetry and flash fiction can be juxtaposed to understand these forms. We’ll explore characteristics and techniques of these genres by reading sample pieces and writing exercises when we meet and at home.

For those age 18+.

A lecturer at the University at Albany, Brian enjoys teaching about the techniques of fiction and poetry writing using an informal approach. His creative and critical work is heavily influenced by the short prose form and the musical quality of language.

Patchett’s most autobiographical novel, this is a funny, chilling, entrancing, and profoundly affecting look into one family’s “commonwealth,” its shared affinities, conflicts, loss, and love.  Spanning five decades, the book explores how a chance encounter at a baby's christening reverberates through the lives of four parents and six children.  When a legendary author uses the children's experiences as the basis for a successful novel, they are forced to come to terms with the deeply loyal connection they feel for one another.

This program series is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature. Sponsored by the Mohawk Valley Library System and participating member libraries.
