Three-part workshop on July 12, 19, and 26.

Authors Among Us

Facilitated by Joan Kruger

Designed especially for poetry novices, this workshop is “basic training” for those interested in writing poetry but aren’t sure where to begin. This workshop is for beginners (or “beginners-plus”), and focuses on giving and receiving constructive feedback on our work, as well as offering exercises, writing prompts, and some tips on how to read poetry, as we learn some basic techniques.  Bring a poem to share at the first meeting; if you don’t have one, that’s okay too, as we’ll be writing in class! Get comfortable with a tall glass of lemonade and start writing!  For adults 18+.

As a poet with many years of teaching experience, Joan Kruger offers many skills related to creative writing, fiction, critical thinking, composition, writing for publication and reviews of the arts. Editing and technical writing round out her experience.

This program series is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature. Sponsored by the Mohawk Valley Library System and participating member libraries.

Illuminations: Collage and Writing
Facilitated by Leslie Neustadt

This workshop will explore the dynamic connection between collage and writing. You will have the opportunity to make a collage and choose a variety of images to stimulate your imagination. Those who don’t want to make a collage can write directly from images. There will be writing prompts and examples of poems with rich images. No prior experience in collage making or writing is required. All art supplies will be provided.

No prior writing experience required. Open to those 18+ years of age.

Leslie Neustadt is a writer and collage artist. She has shown her art at the Niskayuna Library and the Schenectady Jewish Community Center and has given workshops on writing ekphrastic poetry (writing from from art) and collage making and art. She is an active member of the International Women Writers Guild and Women Writers and Artist’s Matrix. Leslie participates in a number of writing groups.
