OPERA SERIES

Coordinated by Gene Rowland and Presented by Josef Schmee

DEC 17: Puccini’s Tosca
Based on the play Tosca by V. Sardou. Puccini saw a performance in French and he hardly understood a word. Yet he was taken by the theatricality of the play. Busy with other projects he forgot about it, until he heard that Ricordi offered it to another composer. Puccini engaged Illica and Giacosa, collaborators on La Boheme, and charged them with turning the play into an opera libretto. The new opera had its first performance at the Teatro Costanzi in Rome Even though some of the arias were applauded and repeated, the opera was not the success everybody expected. Especially critics were negative. Still in 1956, the American critic Joseph Kerman famously called Tosca that shabby little shocker, a surprising if not shocking characterization.

In today's HALF HOUR 1-on-1 sessions, Marsha Lazarus will go over your resume and help you with career/workplace coaching.

Marsha Lazarus brings a wealth of career readiness and workplace training experience.  She is especially proud of her ability to assist individuals to more fully recognize their strengths, what excites them and those positions that match these qualities/values.  She also has an excellent track record of connecting job seekers who have stayed engaged in the job-seeking process to well-matched job opportunities. She recently left her position as the Director of Workforce Development with the Mental Health Association in N.Y.S. (MHANYS) to devote herself full-time to career coaching and training through her organization “Your Career Fit Matters.”  Prior to coming to MHANYS, Marsha oversaw “CareerLinks:  Creating Opportunities that Last, Inc.” for ten years, an agency that she started.  For at least fifteen years prior to that, she provided one-on-one and small group employment services to adults and young adults with varied interests, educational levels and challenges to entering the workplace.
