10:00 AM  -  8:00 PM Craft Supply Swap!
    Contact: Miki Wolfe   781-784-1578   mwolfe@ocln.org

Are you a crafter? Do you love to make things or repurpose things in your spare time? The Sharon Public Library will be hosting a Craft Swap, where interested parties can drop off materials on during the week (Monday through Wednesday), and on Thursday, people can browse for new supplies, all free!

If you drop off crafting materials during the week, you will be given a ticket for early access browsing on Thursday. All others interested in picking up free crafting materials will be welcome after the initial early-access period is over.

Early Access Browsing will take place from 11:00 am through 11:30 am. At 11:30 am, the room will open to the general public, and browsing will continue through 7:30 pm. As this is a community swap event, all items are on a first-come, first-serve basis. We ask that you be respectful of your neighbors, and allow everyone opportunities to swap supplies.

Thinking about dropping off craft supplies during the week? All crafting supplies must be in good condition (paper orgranized, markers in containers, yarn balled neatly, etc.)  We are limiting donations to two boxes each. Any other donations must be discussed with library staff prior to donation.

This program funded by the Friends of the Sharon Public Library.

In a June 30, 2015 article, Dugan Arnett said, “In a sudden, unexpected, and generally curious development, grown-up versions of the doodle-books used by countless kindergartners have not only become a thing — but the thing, as far as millions of rapt Americans are concerned.”

See what all the excitement is for yourself at our Adult Coloring Event! We'll have a selection of coloring pages for you to choose from, along with markers, colored pencils and gel pens. Join us for a relaxing evening and color your cares away...

~Reconstructing History & Genealogy: Mom's WWII Letters

Please join the Veteran's Club as they host guest speaker Corinne Hosfeld Smith.

Corinne's discovery of more than 100 letters brought unexpected insights and connections. In May 2017, she found her mother's stash of letters from 16 servicemen that she had corresponded with in 1944-1945. Most of the men were from her mother's hometown of Allentown, Pennsylvania, or from her college roommate's hometown of Trenton, New Jersey. Nearly all of the writers were now gone and could no longer offer information or explanations for what they had written. Corinne began to trace the soldiers' family trees with one goal in mind: to return the letters in person to their children. Learn about her on-going project, and hear some of the stories of the men, their experiences, and what their relatives have to say today. This presentation links history and genealogy to present-day research and diligence. It revisits a time that we may not want to forget. And it may prompt audience members to wonder for themselves what treasures may be lurking in their own old family boxes -- and how they can share the information with others.

Do you like to color? According to the Boston Globe, adult coloring books are flying off of the shelves.

Contact: Lee Ann Amend   781-784-1578   lamend@ocln.org

Dr. John Hill will offer a discussion of his new book, Adam Smith’s Equality and the Pursuit of Happiness, which examines Adam Smith’s main principles in Wealth of Nations as the basis for effective policymaking. Adam Smith wanted to increase happiness through this formula for a good life: equality, liberty, and justice. Free market interpretations of Smith grossly misrepresent his thought, emphasizing only liberty and not also equality and justice. This book suggests policies that combine all three in order for happiness to be maximized. (summary from the publisher)

Dr. John E. Hill is an award-winning Professor of Politics and History at Curry College, USA. He is the author of Democracy, Equality and Justice: John Adams, Adam Smith and Political Economy (2007).

Do you like to color? According to the Boston Globe, adult coloring books are flying off of the shelves.

Do you like to color? According to the Boston Globe, adult coloring books are flying off of the shelves.
