7:00 PM  -  9:00 PM Books on Tap Reads ALLIGATOR CANDY

David Kushner grew up in the suburbs of Florida in the early 1970s, running wild with his friends, exploring, riding bikes, and disappearing into the nearby woods for hours at a time. One morning in 1973, however, everything changed when David’s older brother Jon took a short bike trip to the local convenience store. He never returned. Alligator Candy is the story of Jon’s murder at the hands of two sadistic drifters, and everything that happened after.

To RSVP for our Books on Tap discussion of David Kushner's Alligator Candy: A Memoir, please go to: meetup.com/Stratford-book-club-social-hub/. We'll get settled, order food/drinks, and catch up with everyone at 7pm on Tuesday, September 26th at The Sitting Duck Tavern. Our book discussion starts at 7:30pm.

Need a copy of the book? Copies are available at Stratford Library to pick up with a library card. If you're a resident, you can also borrow a copy digitally from OverDrive. (If you're an out-of-towner and want a digital copy, check with your local library.)

Cheers!

   2:00 PM  -  4:30 PM Korean Film & Food!

The Korean Spirit and Culture Promotion Project (“KSCPP”)  will present a free program which includes a showing of historical documentary followed by the renactment of a traditional Korean wedding ceremony and the serving of Korean food.

The KSCPP has offered numerous free presentations on Korean history and culture throughout the country (over 1,500 times in the U.S. alone).

One of the documentaries will focus on King Sejong the Great, a truly enlightened monarch from the 15th century Korea.  His motto was, “The duty of a king is to love his people. That is all.”  With this belief, King Sejong initiated numerous cultural achievements and scientific inventions to improve the welfare of his people. To spread the benefits of such accomplishments, he enhanced the moveable metal type printing technology (originally invented in Korea 200 years before Gutenberg in Europe) and printed large runs of books.  His most important contribution was the invention of the Korean Alphabet Hangeul, which he created to eradicate the illiteracy in the country.

A full Korean meal will follow the film showing.

The program is free and open to the public but seating will be limited and RESERVATIONS are required by calling: 203.385.4162.  Limited to 40 participants.

Registration will begin on October 1, 2017

   1:00 PM  -  3:00 PM Writer's Workshop

Everyone has a story to tell. Not everyone gets the time to sit down and write it.

Would you like that time?

Please join us as we launch a new writer's workshop group here at Stratford Library! Open to both new and experienced writers in all genres, the workshop will support the creative process through writing prompts, offer opportunities for participants to share their work and gain feedback, and provide some introduction (or for experienced writers, refreshers) on essentials in crafting poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction/memoir.

Facilitated by Jennifer A. Hudson.

Jennifer A. Hudson is a writer and resident of Stratford. She earned her M.F.A. in Writing, with honors, from  Albertus Magnus College and has taught for several years at Southern Connecticut State University. A finalist for both the 2015 Reynolds Price Fiction Award and the 2009 Rita Dove Award, her work has appeared in several international, national, and regional literary magazines and journals. She is currently working on her first novel.
