 Monthly New Release Movie Program

Tonight's movies is Citizenfour:

In January 2013, Laura Poitras started receiving anonymous encrypted e-mails from "CITIZENFOUR," who claimed to have evidence of illegal covert  surveillance programs run by the NSA in collaboration with other intelligence agencies worldwide. Five months later, she and reporters Glenn Greenwald and Ewen MacAskill flew to Hong Kong for the first of many meetings with the man who turned out to be Edward Snowden. She brought her camera with her. The resulting film is history unfolding before our eyes.

Thayer Public Library will host Aaron Krerowicz

Mr. Krerowicz will present From the Shadow of JFK: The Rise of Beatlemania in America

"February 1964 was the most important month of the Beatles' entire career. It firmly established  Beatlemania in the United States, highlighted by three performances on The Ed Sullivan Show. This60-minute multimedia program will put the Beatles' first U.S. visit in historical context, with particular emphasis on the assassination of John F. Kennedy and how the president's death helped Beatlemania flourish,  in order to explain why that month proved to be the single most pivotal month of the band's existence."

Mr. Krerowicz won a research grant through the University of Hartford in November 2011 to study the band and since has presented his findings through  more than one hundred presentations at libraries, universities, continuing education programs, and community centers throughout the United States. His first Beatles book, The Beatles &The Avant-Garde, was published in late 2014. His second, The Beatles: Band of the Sixties, was released as a Kindle ebook in April 2015,

Interested in writing?  Maybe you were interested in the creative writing club but haven't had time?  Well November might be the month for you.  The teen room will provide one hour a day Monday-Friday after school for teens (grades 7-12) to work on their novels for National Novel Writing Month(also known as NaNoWriMo, which is a program for aspiring youth writers).  Come in the Teen Room and scheme...we mean workshop, with others.

While you do not have to officially sign up for NaNoWriMo, we will be looking at author talks from this year and past years (such as Marie Lu).  We will also be following their writing process steps.

Week 1: Spark an idea. What are your interests?  ((w/ a look at a pep talk from Jeff VanderMeer)

Week 2: Creating realistic characters.

Week 3: Arcs: Where is this thing going? (w/ a look at a pep talk from Marie Lu).

Week 4: Revise & Edit, Edit & Revise.

No registration required.
