Performers Davis Bates and Roger Tincknell will entertain children and their families during their performance to kick-off  the Children's Summer Reading Program "On Your Mark, Get Set, Read!". There will be songs, jokes, stories and a carved wooden animal that moves in a surprising way!

Part of "On Your Mark, Get Set, Read! Summer Reading Program 2016".

Recommended for kids ages 5 up.  No sign-ups needed.

Davis and Roger have over four decades of combined performing experience, providing hundreds of performances in schools, libraries and other community settings. Their warm and participatory programs involve audiences in a variety of cultural heritages.

Davis and Roger have both received Parents' Choice awards for their recordings. Davis won a Gold Award for Family Stories (which was named one of the ten best audio recordings  by Booklist magazine), and Roger won an Honor Award for Earth Rhythms, an environmental album, and Silver Honors for Carnavalito, one of his recent CDs.

Teen Photo Contest Begins (Ends August 8th at Midnight)

Rules: Participants may submit up to two photos between July 1st at noon and August 8th at midnight,  Photos must be available for 8.5x11 inches (so that they may be framed for the voting period of August 9th-August 18th).  

This is for teens only, meaning those going into grades 6-12.  We ask that the photos be appropriate, but that you have fun.  All photos submitted will be displayed in the teen room after the winners are announced.

Winner of the contest (1st, 2nd, & 3rd) will be announced at the Summer Reading Party on August 24th, at that time they will also receive their prize.

Henna is a powder from a plant that is used to temporarily dye the skin, leaving marks like a tattoo.  Join us as henna artist Mandy designs some fabulous creations.  There will be mandalas and other things to color while you wait.

Dungeon & Dragons is a role playing game where you work with a group to create your own adventure.  The game involves characters sheets & dice, which will be supplied for you.

You can choose making a Chewbacca bookmark of felt, and you can make stick puppets of Star Wars characters. There's coloring pages for the little ones.

A very special part of today's program will include  Braintree author, Melanie Weiner. She will present the book, "The Mustard Flu", which she wrote and published. Melanie will tell about it, or read a passage from it. Melanie is  going into fourth grade in Braintree. "The Mustard Flu" is available to purchase through Amazon. If you bring a copy, she will autograph it today. Plus we'll have part of a regular Story-time with Norma, where all can hear stories, sing songs, make a craft. Today's program is for ages 8 and under.

This summer series of storytimes on Wednesdays at 10:00 am  ends today, the last day of August. In the Fall, regular weekly story time sessions will start up again.
