Spring Story-time Series for the littlest "Book Babies" starts today!

They will continue through May 18. No story-time on April 20, as library is closed for Patriot's Day.

Book Babies is for the youngest ones -  infants 3 months through toddlers 24 months with their family or care-givers. They'll hear short books,listen to simple songs, start a good foundation for literacy skills and have fun!  Each session is about 20 minutes. Come meet other little ones and adults who live in the area, while improving the child's early learning skills. No sign-ups needed.

Book Club for grades 2 & 3: this month features “Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge” by Mem Fox
A young boy helps an elderly friend restore some happy memories, in this heart-warming picture book.

We'll talk about the book and its themes of grandparents, good memories and helping others. Then each can make a Memory book, that grandparents can later fill in.
This session takes place in the Children’s Room, near photo-copier, instead of room near puzzles.

 May's book is "Sideways Stories from Wayside School" by Sachar. It is very funny, but long -so you can choose to read just a few of the stories from it.

 

Details: We all read the same book or series, then chat about it. We always do an activity or game related to the book, and often get a bit silly! Snacks provided.  Copies available from the Children's room staff.  The club meets one Tuesday afternoon a month at 3:45. Open to all in gr. 2 and 3 who have read or listened to some of the book.

Make a Memory book!  For children in grades K – 6.
   Kids can assemble the pages and decorate the cover to make a unique  memory book, then get in touch with their grandparents for help filling in the pages! 
    
   We’ll supply the paper, the letters of the alphabet to glue in, and supplies to decorate it. Each page will have room for the child (or their grandparents) to later write or draw something from the grandparent’s memory that starts with that letter. It’s a fun way for grandparents and grandchildren to share with each other. Together they create a keepsake..

    For children who were not able to attend when this program was offered previously on March 25.  No sign-ups needed.

Supporting children with special needs at home and in the community can be extremely challenging for families. Unlike the school environment, everyday life doesn’t necessarily include structure, predictability and a knowledgeable/supportive community. Katy Shamitz, Founder & Director of Skills for Living, will be leading this workshop to provide useful strategies and resources for parents/guardians on ways to support their special needs child at home and in the community. Topics include successful strategies for activities of daily living, including building routines in the home, using visual supports and social stories, strategies for success in community outings, including teaching play/social skills and safety awareness.
