For April, we'll be doing a short book to go with "One Braintree, One Book 2015: Still Alice". We'll be reading "Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge" by Mem Fox, about a small boy who helps an elderly friend recall some good memories.

For May, the kids chose "Sideways Stories from Wayside School" by Sachar. It is really funny, but it is long, so only read the number of short stories  that you want to - no need to finish it.

Details: We all read the same book or series, then chat about it. We always do an activity or game related to the book, and often get a bit silly! Snacks provided.  Copies available from the Children's room staff.  The club meets one Tuesday afternoon a month at 3:45. Open to all in gr. 2 and 3 who have read the book, or listened to it.

Kids can assemble the pages and decorate the cover to make a unique memory book, then get in touch with their grandparents for help filling in the pages!

We’ll supply the paper, the letters of the alphabet to glue in, and supplies to decorate it. Each page will have room for the child (or their grandparents) to later write or draw something from the grandparent’s memory that starts with that letter. It’s a fun way for grandparents and grandchildren to share with each other. Together they create a keepsake..

Make a Memory book!  For children in grades K – 6.

For children who were not able to attend when this program was offered previously on March 25.  No sign-ups needed.

Unlike the school environment, everyday life doesn’t necessarily include structure, predictability and a knowledgeable/supportive community. Katy Shamitz, Founder & Director of Skills for Living, will be leading this workshop to provide useful strategies and resources for parents/guardians on ways to support their special needs child at home and in the community. Topics include successful strategies for activities of daily living, including building routines in the home, using visual supports and social stories, strategies for success in community outings, including teaching play/social skills and safety awareness.
