The Town of Tisbury's Memorial Day Picnic takes place at the Tashmoo Spring Building on West Spring Street off State Road from noon to 4pm, with live music by the Flying Elbows, outdoor games, chalk art, rowboat rides, and an historical exhibit. Grills and free ice cream provided, bring your own picnic  supplies, and leave pets at home.

The Friends of the Vineyard Haven Public Library always welcome new members! All volunteers and those who are interested in knowing more about the Friends meet at 10:30 am on the first Saturday of every month at the library. An annual meeting for the election of officers is held in September.

CLAMS Libraries will host a nonpartisan voter registration drive with trained volunteers to assist with voter registration.

MVRHS students discuss their involvement in an MIT-led project that aims to dramatically reduce Lyme on Martha’s Vineyard.

Join MVRHS students as they discuss their involvement with MIT scientist Dr. Kevin Esvelt and his work on Lyme prevention. The students will discuss their experience setting up a molecular biology lab in the classroom to identify ticks that host Borrelia borgdorferi, the bacterium that causes Lyme, and will share preliminary results.

A Trans-Atlanic Love Story.

Herring from the Baltic Sea and potatoes from the Americas formed a nutritious alliance that saved the lives of thousands of Swedes. Journalist and cookbook author Ingemar Lönnbom's talk will include the history of the herring and potatoes, and how they are used in Sweden today.

Peter Alden: Changes in our upland mammal and bird life over time.

Peter Alden is a world-renowned naturalist, lecturer, ecotourism guide and author of 15 books on North American and African wildlife, including the National Audubon Society’s Regional Field Guide Series. He is considered to be an authority on birds and larger mammals of the world.

Through memoirs, music and memorabilia, local historian and author Thomas Dresser recounts this dramatic history of the bygone era of whaling on Martha's Vineyard.

Panel: Mice Against Ticks, the Anti-Lyme and Anti-Tick Mouse Initiative               Katharine Cornell Theater

White-footed mice carry the pathogen that causes Lyme disease. Mice Against Ticks is a program from MIT sponsored by the boards of health of the island towns to create mice that are genetically engineered to break the cycle of transmission. The panel will be moderated by John Sundman. Panels members are: Kevin Esvelt, director of the Mice against Ticks Initiative at MIT, Ruth Faden, Professor of Bioethics at Johns Hopkins, Sam Telford, Professor of Infectious Disease and Global Health at Tufts School of Veterinary Medicine, and Sheila Jasanoff, Professor of Science and Technology Studies at Harvard Kennedy School.
