*The library that has the most participants in attendance @ the game will receive a visit from a member of the 2011 Pittsburgh Pirates during the month of August.

   6:00 PM CHILDREN'S SUMMER READING CLUB  
    Register any day from June 7th through July 25th

Independent Readers -- K - 5th Grade   
Questyinz, the online interactive summer game is here again.  Get your game card at WACL and then login using your unique ID number.   Children get to read, write, and complete discovery quests on Questyinz to win badges and points towards virtual rewards for their avatar.  Just log the amount of time read each day, for every 10 hours you can win a free book from the library.

You also have the option of filling out activity logs each week at the library.  These logs will earn you a raffle ticket for the End-of-Summer prizes.  If you fill out all six of the activity logs, you will be entered for the grand prize, a NOOK HD+!


Read to Me -- Birth - 5 years old Program ⇒  Read to your kids!  Books, magazines, comic books, graphic novels, and even listening to audio books...it all counts toward summer reading!  Keep track of your reading by logging books online.

Stop into the Library once a week to complete a fun activity sheet.  Turn it in to the library staff and receive a raffle ticket for the End-of-Summer prizes!  Complete and turn in an activity sheet for all six weeks of summer reading to be entered for a chance at the grand prize, a NOOK HD+!  Keep reading!  For every 50 books read to your child, they earn a free book.  The top reader in each age group will also win a special prize.

   6:00 PM TEEN SUMMER READING CLUB  
    Teens - Grades 6th - 12th

Receive a reading log with six weekly goals.  Upon completion of each weekly goal, teens bring the form to the teen librarian and receive a prize.
Every week the teen librarian draws a raffle prize winner from those teens who logged at least one item that week.  Weekly prizes are $10 Target gift cards.
In addition, teens will receive one ticket for each weekly goal, one ticket for every three programs attended and for every five volunteer hours.  These tickets will be used to enter the End-of-Summer grand prize - a NOOK HD + and cover.
At the end of the summer, all teens that have completed the reading log are entered into a raffle to win the county grand prize, which is an iPad.

Fourth Aveue & PPG Place FREE Downtown Walking Tour with Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation
Join fellow Wise Walk groups from across the region for this tour.  One of 18 National Register Districts in the city, Fourth Avenue showcases buildings designed by more than a dozen distinguished architects, in styles ranging from Greek Revival to Post Mordern, constructed between 1836 and 1984.  Tall buildings with banks on the ground level and aggressive little places of a couple of stories, dedicated solely to finance when built, now serve multiple new uses or are awaiting renovation.  The tour will begin at the corner of 4th Avenue and Smithfield Street downtown at the Parklet next to Dollar Bank.
This program is brought to you as part of the Wise Walk, a program of the Allegheny County Library Association in collaboration with AARP and UPMC for Life.

Come and learn about the Marcellus Shale natural gas development taking place in our region.  Our featured speaker, Susan Oliver, Manager of Community Relations for WPX Energy will be at the library to discuss shale gas development from the Industry's perspective, including hydraulic fracturing or "fracing", and answer questions at the conclusion of her presentation.  This is an opportunity to learn from and ask questions directly to one of the top 10 natural gas producers in the United States.
