Early literacy is important for all children.  The library is here to help your child create a love for reading and for the library.  Please visit the Idea Place librarians to register and receive your reading kit.  Registration is for children ages Birth to 5 years (not yet in Kindergarten).  You can read anywhere and at your own pace.  It’s up to you! 

Your child will be celebrated at each 100 milestone by having their picture taken for our website and receiving a prize.  At the end of the year, we will have a party for all registrants who complete the program!

Wednesday, May 3. Glass artist Dale Chihuly’s stunning sculptures will be on display in New York for the first time in 10 years at the New York Botanical Garden – and we have tickets. Bus departs from the Municipal Parking Lot on Parlato Drive at 8:00am and leaves the Botanical Garden at approximately 4:30pm. Registration is $60.00 and includes bus, tour of the exhibit and a tram tour of the garden. Payment by cash, check or money order only is due at the time of registration.

Get your hands dirty and help out! The HOG Farm is a community supported agriculture (CSA) project located in Brookhaven hamlet. Volunteers are to arrive at the farm dressed appropriately and prepared to do physical and manual work. Get your hands dirty and help out! The HOG Farm is a community supported agriculture (CSA) project located in Brookhaven hamlet. Volunteers are to arrive at the farm dressed appropriately and prepared to do physical and manual work. This program takes place off library grounds and volunteers must  provide their own transportation to and from the farm.  For more information, ask a Teen Librarian.

Get your hands dirty and help out! The HOG Farm is a community supported agriculture (CSA) project located in Brookhaven hamlet. Volunteers are to arrive at the farm dressed appropriately and prepared to do physical and manual work. Come with a group of friends or bring your family to build and decorate a sustainable rain barrel.  There are a number of benefits to having a rain barrel in your yard and within the community.  For starters, it’s perfect for watering a garden and grass, but it also helps reduce runoff pollution.  It’s a win-win for anyone interested in promoting a greener community.

Barrels will be auctioned off at a reception on July 17.
