Eclipse 2017 Live Streaming at the Main Library

Join us at the Main Library for a live streaming of NASA's coverage of the 2017 Solar Eclipse!  Starting at 1:00 p.m. NASA will be broadcasting the eclipse live in a program that will "...cover the path of totality the eclipse will take across the United States, from Oregon to South Carolina. The program will feature views from NASA research aircraft, high-altitude balloons, satellites and specially-modified telescopes. It also will include live reports from Charleston, as well as from Salem, Oregon; Idaho Falls, Idaho; Beatrice, Nebraska; Jefferson City, Missouri; Carbondale, Illinois; Hopkinsville, Kentucky; and Clarksville, Tennessee." 

Registration is preferred to ensure adequate seating.

Among the world’s oldest republics, it retains much of its historic architecture. On the slopes of Monte Titano sits the capital, also called San Marino, known for its medieval walled old town and narrow cobblestone streets. The Three Towers, castlelike citadels dating to the 11th century, sit atop Titano’s neighboring peaks.

The capital's massive Istana Nurul Iman palace is the residence of Brunei’s ruling sultan.

Join Aida Mansoor in an informational session that looks at the definitions of:

Islam and Muslims

Who are Muslims

What are the beliefs and worship practices

What are the sensitivities and stereotypes, demographics, and important definitions.

Aida Bio:

Aida Mansoor has been doing presentations on "Understanding Islam and Muslims", "Understanding Islam and the Muslim Patient" and "Women in Islam" since 1999. She is committed to building bridges of understanding and was President of the Muslim Coalition of Connecticut which is a non-profit dedicated to this purpose. As a Community chaplain in the Greater Hartford Area she is working on various projects including one on Domestic Violence awareness and another on burial and funeral preparations. She is a board member of the Connecticut Council for Interreligious Understanding and has been awarded the Human Relations Award from the National Conference for Community and Justice in 2011. She also works with Muslim women on health and wellness projects and has initiated swimming programs especially for Muslim women. Last year was her 6th year leading the "Muslims Against Hunger" team in Foodshare's Annual walk - the team had over 200 walkers and the team earned over $25,000 through the years for Foodshare!  Join us for an informative evening!
