All skill levels and experience welcome, and any yarn crafter can join! Crochet, knit, whatever you please! 

Have some yarn in your stash you don't need anymore? Leave a Skein, or take a Skein with our yarn swap. Tired of your yarn getting tangled? Use our ball winder to make easy to use balls of yarn. We will have a variety of pattern books available for browsing, and encourage pattern sharing! We even have a small selection of knitting tools in case of a crafting emergency.

Researchers say that doing 25 minutes a day of solving puzzles can raise your IQ by 4 points! Solving puzzles increases brain production of dopamine. This neurotransmitter is responsible for regulating mood and optimism. It also affects learning, memory, concentration, and motivation. Dopamine is released every time we do a puzzle and even every time we put a piece in the right place! Seminole has a variety of puzzles to choose from suitable for everyone!

Come to John Muir Branch to see prolific author Ray Robertson discuss his new book All the Years Combine: The Grateful Dead in Fifty Shows (Biblioasis, 2023). Ray Robertson is the author of nine novels, five collections of non-fiction, and a book of poetry. His work has been translated into several languages.  He contributed the liner notes to three Grateful Dead archival releases: Dave’s Picks #45, the Here Comes Sunshine 1973 boxed set, and the From The Mars Hotel 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition.  He lives in Toronto.

Come to John Muir branch to see acclaimed local author Patrick Brode discuss his new release, Traitor be Default: The Trials of Kanao Inouye, the Kamloops Kid (Dundurn Press, 2024). At the end of World War II, a young Japanese Canadian would stand trial and face execution for having committed war crimes and betraying his country. His reputation was such that he was quickly apprehended after the war and faced charges of war crimes. But his subsequent trials became mired in questions as to who he really was. Was he a Canadian forced to serve in the Japanese military machine? Or was he a devoted soldier of his emperor obeying his superiors?

Want to talk over your latest projects, get advice, and meet other crafters like you? Come to Central Library on Thursdays from 10:30-12:30 for Knit Happens! All skill levels and experience welcome, and any yarn crafter can join! Crochet, knit, whatever you please! 

Have some yarn in your stash you don't need anymore? Leave a Skein, or take a Skein with our yarn swap. Tired of your yarn getting tangled? Use our ball winder to make easy to use balls of yarn. We will have a variety of pattern books available for browsing, and encourage pattern sharing! We even have a small selection of knitting tools in case of a crafting emergency.

Join us at the Central Branch for a speed friending event. Participants will spend several minutes chatting with each person and then complete a match card to identify those with whom they would like to chat further and become new ‘pals.’ Library staff will provide contact information to those participants who form a match. Participants are encouraged to bring a favourite book as a point of conversation, and we'll provide other conversation starters to ensure the five-minute sessions move along smoothly.  

Your privacy is important to us, so each participant will be given an "alias" which they can use at the event in lieu of their real name. Contact information and real names will only be shared with matches with the consent of the participants.

Participants are asked to pre-register (call or email). This event is capped at 20 participants.

The first Friday in June is National Donut Day! Celebrate this fun food holiday by dropping-in on the PA Day and making you very own donut craft!
