The Declaration of Independence - Gary Highlander
Monday June 25, 2018
7:00 PM until 8:45 PM
The Declaration of Independence states the principles on which our government and our identity as Americans are based. Unlike the other founding documents, the Declaration of Independence is not legally binding, but it is powerful. Abraham Lincoln called it “a rebuke and a stumbling-block to tyranny and oppression.” It continues to inspire people around the world to fight for freedom and equality. It was a bold and risky – in fact, treasonous – act, to dare to defy the king of England and withdraw from British rule. Dr. Hylander will explain why and how these daring men assembled and produced this historic and revered document. His lively style is well-known to be entertaining as well as educational.
