Adoption & Education Forum 2009

ASAP (Adoption & Foster Care School Awareness Project) will hold the Adoption & Education Forum 2009 on Saturday, November 14th from 10 - 4 pm at the Pembroke Public Library, 142 Center Street, Pembroke, MA. This year's keynote speaker will be Barbara Braun McDonald, Clinical Nurse Specialist in Adolescent and Child Psychiatry, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Registered Attachment Therapist who specializes in adoption and attachment issues. She will speak on “The Bridge to Home: Teachers & Parents Together Educating the Traumatized Child” Also speaking will be Lucy Blood, an ordained minister, middle, high school and special education teacher, songwriter and adoptive parent. Lucy will speak on “Sticks and Stones and Words Can Hurt: Trans-racial Adoption Realities” Workshops will cover: “Concept Imagery and Language Comprehension”, “Neurofeedback and the Adopted Child”, “Introducing Adoption and Diversity Through Literature”, “Captive in the Classroom – Then Nancy Thomas Approach” and “The Parent Advocate”. Registration is $30 general/ $20 classroom teachers.. Lunch is provided. We hope you will join us in forging a partnership for better, more sensitive and inclusive education.

ASAP, Adoption & Foster Care School Awareness Project, is a non-profit public charity providing outreach and education to communities on the South Shore. We provide information and support for educators and adoptive and foster families including monthly support meetings, workshops for parents and children, books for libraries and summer music scholarships.
