Yes or No? Know Before You Vote on Ballot Question #1
The League of Women Voters of Lexington will present a First Friday forum on ballot question #1 at Cary Memorial Library at 9:30AM on Friday, November 2nd, 2018. Question #1 would limit how many patients could be assigned to each registered nurse in Massachusetts hospitals and certain other health care facilities. A YES vote on Ballot Question #1 is a vote for establishing "patient assignment limits" for RNs working in hospitals and certain other health care facilities. Limits would be determined by the respective type of medical unit or patient; and the maximum number of patients assigned to nurses would apply at all times. A NO vote on Ballot Question #1 is a vote against establishing patient assignment limits. November 6th is election day in Massachusetts.
The Committee to Ensure Safe Patient Care is leading the YES campaign. Donna Kelly-Williams, RN, President of the Massachusetts Nurses Association, will speak for a YES vote.
The Coalition to Protect Patient Safety is leading the NO campaign. Anu Puri, Senior Director of Health Care Finance and Research at the Massachusetts Health and Hospital Association, will speak for a NO vote.
Each side will have 20 minutes to explain their position, followed by questions from the audience.
This program is the second 2018-2019 First Friday forum hosted by the League to promote awareness and understanding of public policy issues. The forums take place in Cary Memorial Library’s large meeting room at 1874 Massachusetts Avenue in Lexington. Coffee will be available at 9:15 AM and the presentation begins at 9:30 AM. All League forums are free and open to the public.
