Using Them Up: How the World Makes Leftovers Taste Like New

Friday May 17, 2024
7:00 PM until 8:00 PM

This program will take place on Zoom.

Our Presenter is Jacquelyn Ottman, food waste advocate, culinary historian, immediate past chair of the Manhattan Solid Waste Advisory Board, and author, "Connecting from A Quarantine Kitchen, My Shelter Island Pandemic Story".

With attention focused on composting and food waste in the East of End Long Island these days, it's a great time to talk about the best food waste using strategy of all time: Repurposing Leftovers!

This highly colorful slide presentation given by a NYC-based food waste advocate, will help empower you to "shop your refrigerator" and transform what's left over from last night's dinner into something new and delicious.

At the same time, you’ll learn how to save money, cut down on climate emissions and get inspired to make timeless dishes, like fried rice, fish cakes and frittatas used by food cultures around the world, for centuries, to roll extra food from one meal to the next. Plenty of time will be built in for questions and a lively, fun discussion.

This program is being hosted by Shelter Island Public Library.
