Roseann Bacha-Garza to present historical program to Texas Master Naturalists

Roseann Bacha-Garza - Program Manager of the Community Historical Archaeology Project with Schools program at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg, will highlight the historical military base in Rio Grande City and its future development for other uses as presented in the award winning documentary film: “And Then The Soldiers Were Gone: Fort Ringgold" which was developed by the CHAPS team at UTRGV.  
 
Ms. Bacha-Garza obtained her MA at the University of Texas-Pan American and is a Lecturer of Anthropology and History whose master's thesis, "San Juan and its Role in the Transformation of the Rio Grande Valley" traces the development of the Valley from the Spanish land grantees through its various stages of municipal development. She has co-edited several books related to Valley history including The Civil War on the Rio Grande 1846-1876, Blue and Gray on the Border: The Rio Grande Valley Civil War Trail, and The Native American Peoples of South Texas. She also wrote Images of America: San Juan, in collaboration with the San Juan Economic Development Corporation, which won Preservation Texas's Heritage Education Award.
 
The presentation on January 20 will begin at 6:30 pm. The public is invited to meet with Texas Master Naturalists chapter members at the 6 p.m. social as well as the general meeting. The meeting is at St. George Orthodox Church Hall, 704 W. Sam Houston in Pharr. There is no charge for this event.
