15-Minute Family STEAM Activity

Thursday February 25, 2021

Lifting Ice With String

This experiment is geared toward families with kids ages 3 & up.  Did you ever wonder why they use salt to de-ice roads? Did you know that snow more readily sticks to pavement treated with salt? Why would this be the case? In this activity you will use the same principles to pick up ice cubes with a string. Is it possible to do this—without getting your hands cold? Do the activity and see what a pinch of salt can do!

Registration for materials is required for each experiment you would like to try, limited quantities are available and will be reserved for those who have registered. Once your registration has been confirmed, library staff will work with participants to set up a time to pick up their craft kit. STEAM kits can be picked up at the library Monday-Saturday during the week the activity is featured.

To register for a  materials kit, please email attleborokids@sailsinc.org or call 508-222-7820 during the week of February 22 The last day to register and schedule a pick up time for these materials will be Friday February 26.

A tutorial for this craft will be posted on the Attleboro Public Library YouTube page.  You can also find written instructions under the Children's tab on the main page.
