Hercules in Hell: A Greek Myth

Tuesday June 25, 2019
1:00 PM until 2:00 PM

The 2019 Summer Library Program theme is "A Universe of Stories"  --  join us today as we kick off this summer's program with Master Storyteller Odds Bodkin!

With thunderous 12-string guitar he plays as he speaks, Master Storyteller Odds Bodkin dives deep into Greek mythology with this award-winning adventure story, HERCULES IN HELL.  The great hero has just awakened in the Underworld, standing before the King and Queen of the Dead.  Yes, Hercules is dead, but he should not be here.  As the son of Zeus, he should have awakened on Mt. Olympus.

Only after he tells his life story to the King and Queen will he be freed, however.  And so he begins.  His youth.  His murders.  His bouts of madness.  His twelve labors and the powerful weapons he uses.  Hercules tells a grand saga, but his heroic life is darkened by uncontrollable rages.

Odds Bodkin performs this story in a brooding voice for Hercules, along with many other characters.  Added are uncanny vocal sound effects that help this story feel like a movie.

This free show is for teens and adults and is not recommended for listeners under eleven years of age.

Odds Bodkin has been defined as "a consummate storyteller" by the New York Times; Wired says of him "one of the great voices in American storytelling."  Don't miss this amazing opportunity!
