The Story Behind the Renaming of Columbus Day to Indigenous People’s Day

Maulian Dana, the first-ever appointed Ambassador for the Penobscot Nation and our presenter, explains that “what we choose to honor and celebrate has impacts on both the legacy and the modern day realities of colonizing and Indigenous cultures.” Previously Maulian was a member of the Penobscot Tribal Council and is a founding member of Not Your Mascot Maine.

They will enlighten, challenge and provoke participants in support of the Multicultural Center's mission to "welcome and champion diversity as essential to the economic and social vitality of Maine."
