Jazz at Lincoln Center - Blood on the FieldsSunday February 3, 2019
2:00 PM until 3:00 PM
The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis will perform the oratorio Blood on the Fields in a special Digital Concert Network performance with guest artists baritone Gregory Porter, scat-singing legend Kenny Washington, and contralto Paula West.
Wynton Marsalis became the first Jazz artist to receive a Pulitzer Prize in music (1997), honoring his landmark oratorio Blood on the Fields, an ambitious, sprawling work that explores themes of slavery and freedom, and cemented Marsalis’ reputation as one of the most innovative and ambitious composers in Jazz today, taking his cues from other genre-defying artists like Duke Ellington and Charles Mingus.
As an affiliate of the Digital Concert Network of Jazz at Lincoln Center, Eastham Public Library offers free Jazz at Lincoln Center performances on its state of the art projection and sound systems.
