From Basho, the 17th century haiku master, to Pulitzer Prize–winning poet Mary Oliver, ponds have been a source of reflection for poets across the ages. Alice Kociemba, guest editor of Common Threads (the poetry discussion project of Mass Poetry) in 2015 & 2016, will lead a discussion of eight accessible poems that explore the contemplative nature of “still waters.” Selections include poems from Nobel Laureate W.B. Yeats, U.S. poet laureate Donald Hall, New Hampshire poet laureate Jane Kenyon, and Outer Cape poets Alan Feldman, Tony Hoagland, Mary Oliver, and Margaret Phillips.
