In 2002 it was recognized that the native Diamonback terrapin was facing extirpation in Eastham's bay marshes due to loss of nesting habitat, heavy predation, and road kill. Under Mass Audubon Bill Allan started a conservation program to prevent losing our iconic turtle. After eighteen years of effort & the dedication of many of Eastham's citizens, we can declare success.
