The First Encounter at Eastham – The Story Re-Told
A Virtual Talk with
Dr. Ian Saxine
Dr. Saxine’s book "The Story of the 'First Encounter' At Nauset"- retells the story of events before, during and after colonists and indigenous people meet in 1620 at Nauset, now Eastham, and offers listeners an opportunity to reflect on the many themes that 1620 and 2020 have in common.
Ian Saxine received his PhD from Northwestern University and teaches US History and British Atlantic World History at Bridgewater University. His research focuses on colonial and Native American history, especially in New England. His first book Properties of Empire: Indians, Colonists and Land Speculators on the New England Frontier was published in 2019.
