About the Instructor Lin Murphy-Nicotera
Lin Murphy-Nicotera worked at the Maryland School for the Deaf, Columbia campus working with emotionally/behaviorally disturbed children ages 5-13. Having studied mime under Tony Montanaro from Celebration Barn Theater while acquiring a college degree and becoming certified in Elementary Education and Physical Education gave Lin a natural ability in ASL (American Sign Language). After 5 years working with this intense group Lin took a sabbatical and traveled around the United States performing Mime shows at Schools for the Deaf with the company she founded-The Echo Mime Company. While in the Washington, D.C. area she taught at the Kendal Demonstration Elementary School on Gallaudet University campus, taught sign language at Georgetown University, and worked as an interpreter at Montgomery Community College.  After getting married to a Connecticut man she moved to East Granby and worked at the American School for the Deaf in West Hartford working with preschool to twelfth grade as a classroom teacher for the P.A.C.E.S. program, the elementary school librarian, and the physical education teacher. While there she ran the Summer Program for Young Children for 5 years. She has also worked as an interpreter for the Simsbury and Hampden-Wilbraham public school Districts.
