Miz Rosie Presents: Meet Harrriet Tubman

Saturday February 29, 2020
2:00 PM until 3:00 PM

Rosie Chapman, a.k.a. Miz Rosie, is a storyteller, author, poet, and artist who thrills audiences of all ages with storytelling. Rosie’s interactive “edutainment”, warms the heart and stimulates the mind. Miz Rosie will offer a look into history with her performance of Harriet Tubman. Born into slavery, Harriet Tubman escaped to freedom in the North in 1849 to become the most famous "conductor" on the Underground Railroad! She risked her life to lead hundreds of family members and other slaves from the plantation system to freedom on this elaborate secret network of safe houses. A leading abolitionist before the Civil War, Tubman also worked as a Union Army spy during the Civil War. In honor of her life and by popular demand, in 2016, the U.S. Treasury Department announced that Tubman will replace Andrew Jackson on the center of a new $20 bill.

Recommended age for this program is 7 and up.
