Stretch your creativity in this two-part poetry workshop, led by Lansing’s current Poet Laureate, Laura Apol. Laura is an associate professor of literacy, literature and creative writing in the MSU College of Education.
Laura feels “Poems are about community—So much of a place, and people in a place, can be expressed and understood through poetry.” In this workshop, participants will look at models of "place" poetry in the first week, with some writing done in the workshop and a prompt to take home; the second meeting will have additional in-session writing, with an opportunity to share and receive feedback on the take-home prompt from the previous session- and possibly a "reading" of the Writing the Land poems. Since workshop sessions build on one another, participants are requested to commit to both workshops when they register. Age group: Older teens and adults.
