Pottery by Amy Breakstone - Great Neck North Alumna
Amy Breakstone,MD is an alumna of Great Neck North where she developed her interest in pottery and, in fact, as a student, taught a wheel throwing course within the Community School. She went on to study work in clay at Wesleyan University. After a brief hiatus of 40 years (medical school, raising 3 children and full time practice in OB/GYN) she again took up this art form over the past 2 years at Canton Clayworks in CT. While still practicing medicine as her day job, she has explored the excitement of wheel throwing and sculpture, firing at high temperatures in a Naborigama wood fired kiln as well as Raku, Saggar, and sawdust firings, all under the tutelage of master potter, Tim Scull. All of these methods create dramatic results of blended textures and color.
