French Canadian Music and its Cross-Cultures

Musician Lucie Therrien will present the evolution of traditional French Canadian music including its arrival in North America from France, its crossing with indigenous peoples' culture during the evangelization of Acadia and Quebec, its growth alongside English culture after the British colonization, and its expansion from Acadia to Louisiana. The movement of French-Canadian culture from Quebec to New England during industrialization and the ensuing French Canadian migration is also addressed.
