Have you ever heard someone refer to the refrigerator as an ‘icebox’? Before electronic appliances kept foodstuffs fresh, most households maintained an insulated box that used large slabs of delivered ice to chill perishables.

Join Goffstown Historical Society President Jen Brown and Curator Jim Beauchemin for a presentation about Goffstown’s own ice harvesting history. Learn about the methods and tools used to farm massive pieces of lake ice, and how, before the advent of power tools or motorized winches, the ice was then cut into smaller blocks, transported, and stored for year-round delivery.
