Bertha Gifford: Alleged Serial Killer
Saturday November 3, 2018
10:00 AM until 11:30 AM
One of Jefferson County’s most notorious former citizens is Mrs. Bertha Gifford, middle-aged wife of a farmer who was formally charged with the murders of three people, though most historians attribute as many as twenty deaths to her “nursing skills.” Marc Houseman has been researching Mrs. Gifford’s story for nearly twenty years. Houseman is a local history buff who is employed by the Washington Historical Society in Washington, MO. He will share his research through a PowerPoint presentation replete with photos and share stories gathered from those who knew the story first-hand.
