The Buried Giant by Ishiguro Kazuo 2015
Axl and Beatrice are an aged husband and wife who live in sixth-century England. Their country is no longer occupied by the Romans, and it is at the moment not engaged in war, but the peace is offset by the harsh living conditions England's peasants must endure. It is a dark place and time, populated with mythical warriors and monsters. Although Axl and Beatrice know that danger lies beyond their home, they decide to set out on a journey to their son's village. They haven't seen their son for a long time, and they seem to have almost forgotten him. As the husband and wife make their way through the countryside, they meet up with an assortment of characters who are on journeys of their own. Axl and Beatrice's quest prompts them to consider the past as well as the unknown future they face in the afterlife. Books & Authors
