We will explore themes of cultural barriers, differences and finding the courage to connect. Jacqueline Woodson’s books, The Other Side and The Day You Begin will be highlighted.

Book reading and discussion for children, families and teachers will be led by two exemplary New London teachers, May Reitz and Carol Wheeler-Flood. The books that will be shared are by Jacqueline Woodson who is the recipient of a 2020 MacArthur Fellowship, the 2020 Hans Christian Andersen Award, the 2018 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, and the 2018 Children’s Literature Legacy Award. She was the 2018–2019 National Ambassador for Young people’s Literature.

Please join us for these engaging stories and timely discussions. Strategies for classroom teachers will also be discussed.
