Whale Ho! Taking a Virtual Deep Dive into New England’s 19th Century Whaling Heritage

Thursday October 7, 2021
7:00 PM until 8:30 PM

ZOOM Program:  Using a combination of pre-recorded video of the last wooden whaleship in the world: Charles W. Morgan, artifacts from the Museum’s collections, and stories taken straight from logbooks, this virtual presentation from Mystic Seaport Museum delivers a fascinating look at the how and why of this dangerous industry and its role in the development of America as a young nation. Join one of the Museum’s engaging and experienced Museum Educators to learn surprising details about whaling, its role in the industrial revolution, the fashion industry, and the factors that transformed us from a nation of whale hunters to whale watchers. This presentation will include a live Q and A  to explore your questions and also share tips on how to access the Museum’s vast resources both on-site and virtually. Join us for an exciting exploration of our whaling history.

This program is free and open to all. For more information call the library at 860-434-2272.
