To Remove a President: The Constitutional Process of Impeachment - Session 5Friday October 18, 2019
10:30 AM until 12:00 PM
This six-week course will look at what was behind the Founding Fathers decision to include the power of Congress to impeach and remove a president from office for "Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors." We will then look at the process as spelled out in the Constitution and discuss what the phrase "high Crimes and Misdemeanors" means.
In addition, the course will cover the history of the two times Congress has exercised that power and impeached Presidents Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton, as well as the case of President Richard Nixon who resigned before Articles of Impeachment were voted. Finally, we will discuss current issues and arguments for and against impeaching President Trump.
The class will meet every Friday at 10:30 to noon beginning Friday, September 13th. The final class will be on Friday, October 25th. Please note there will be no class on Friday, October 4th.
