Monday May 1, 2017
On Display at the Ben May Main Library
Created by the Center for the Study of War and Memory at the University of South Alabama, "War and Remembrance on the Alabama Gulf Coast" tells the story of local war memorials, including those that hide in plain sight.
One section of the display introduces the topic of war remembrance and equips viewers with a set of questions to ask whenever they encounter examples of public commemoration. The rest of the exhibit examines specific memorials, including those at Fort Blakeley, Fort Mims, and the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park.
Many of the photographs featured in the display come from the vast Gulf Coast history collections housed in the USA McCall Library.
