Join Som Sharma, Founder & Director, AHINSA (Alliance for Humanitarian Initiatives, Nonviolence and Spiritual Advancement),for a talk and discussion on the making of modern India. Mr. Sharma's talk will include a brief history of India's independence, India as the world's largest secular democracy, its four great dharmic religions, as well as, current polical relationships with its neighbors and the US.
This discussion is part of the Library' s year-long Global Beats program in which the library has planned a series of talks and musical programs that explore different regions of our world.
Mr. Sharma holds a Masters degree in Sociology from India, a Masters degree in Industrial Administration from the UK and a MBA from Indiana University, Bloomington. He has been both an Assistant Professor of Sociology and a business executive in India. He was the founder and director of the Cinmaya Mission in Monroeville,a Hindu Spiritual/Educational Institution as well as the founder and director of AHINSA (Alliance for Humanitarian Initiatives, Nonviolence and Spiritual Advancement) a forum dedicated to promoting and propagating Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals of religious and communal harmony, nonviolence and Peace.
