Regristration is required!
The Summer Teen Writer’s Workshop is a weekly online writing group for incoming 7th-12th graders. Meetings will consist of opportunities for participants to write using guided prompts, or share their work for feedback. Regardless of your experience with writing, every level of writer is welcome and together we will work to foster a safe, supportive, and fun community for us to learn from one another. Sharing your work is completely optional. All genres of writing (poetry, fiction, nonfiction, prose, etc.) are welcome! Each week there will be different writing prompts based around different themes or genres!
To participate in this program, you must click here to register. You will then receive a confirmation email containing a link to the program, to be used at the time of the event. (You will also receive email reminders when the date of the program is approaching.)
Participants will be asked to create a free Zoom and Google Account if they do not have them already. We will be using the following online tools: Zoom, Gmail, Google...Drive, Docs, Forms, Slides, and Sites. Dakota will provide detailed instructions and support to help anyone who is unfamiliar with these tools.
This group will be run by college graduate & MA certified high school English teacher, Dakota Durbin. Dakota graduated from Merrimack College in 2018 with his BA English and is expected to graduate from Salem State University in December 2020 with his MAT English degree. During his time in undergrad, Dakota helped run Merrimack’s Writer’s Circle and participated in events which hosted critically acclaimed authors, poets, and artists. Dakota has been writing poetry for many years, and has continued to hone his craft. His work has been accepted in Laurel Moon Literary Magazine and he read at Boston College’s 2018 Greater Boston Intercollegiate Undergraduate Poetry Festival.
