Will Eisner Week: STEAM in Comics

Wednesday March 4, 2020
4:00 PM until 5:30 PM

Will Eisner, creator of the comics series The Spirit, is known as the Father of the Graphic Novel; he was a pioneer in the comics industry, and every year libraries, universities, and comics shops honor his memory during the first week of March. In addition to writing superhero and literary comics, Eisner also wrote comics explaining technology, including auto mechanics, to soldiers during and after WWII. More recently, especially during the past decade, more creators have been creating comics that incorporate some aspect of STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics – in their stories. Some will teach something, like computer coding, how to bake chocolate chip cookies, or create a prime number sieve, while others might cover the history of dogs, robotics, or geography. Librarian Kat Kan will showcase some of these books and lead participants in a STEAM activity as we celebrate Will Eisner and comics.

Program geared for Elementry through High School age students. Parents are welcome to join!
