African American History Month Art and Writing Contest

Learn something new about African American History Month and be entered into a drawing to win one of 5-$25 gift cards! This contest is open to children in grades 1-5.

How to enter:

  1. Research a significant organization or event or organization in African American History, such as:

  • The Negro Baseball League

  • Port Chicago Mutiny

  • NAACP

  • Pullman Porters

  • Freedom Rides

  • Black Panther Party

  • The Tuskegee Airmen

  • The Tuskegee  Experiment

  • Buffalo Soldiers 

  • Harlem Renaissance

  • Divine Nine

  • The Great Migration

  • HBCUs

  • 1968 Olympics

  1. Write a 1 page essay about what you learned OR create a drawing illustrating the organization or event you have chosen to research.

  2. Email your writing piece or illustration via email to: jdaddio@pearlriverlibrary.org. Include your name, library card number (Pearl River Library cardholders only), age, grade and contact information in the email. All entries must be received by 12 noon on Wednesday, February 24th. The drawing will be held on Friday, February 26 and winners will be contacted after that.
