Intro to Embroidery

Tuesday March 27, 2018
6:00 PM until 8:00 PM

Make your very own embroidered piece of art !  This embroidery workshop will be taught by Karen Katin from Stitchery! In this class you will learn 4 basic hand sewing stitches from which most every design can be fashioned. Learn about readily available and specialty embroidery supplies, how to transfer images to fabric for stitching, and then what you can do with your sewn piece of art. Many examples of completed modern embroidery as well as inspirational books will be on display. All materials provided.

Karen Katin has been sewing her entire life—starting at age 5 and never stopping. She first worked as a research scientist, earned a Masters in Education from William and Mary, taught high school Biology, and after having children, spend 7 years on Etsy and the artisan fair circuit as Dancing Threads RI selling handmade bags and accessories. She opened Stitchery in Portsmouth, RI, in February 2017 as a studio space offering a wide range of needle arts classes. In addition to a full schedule of studio classes, she also teaches sewing workshops at libraries around the state.

This free workshop is limited to 15 participants, ages 18 and up.  Please sign up online at www.portsmouthlibrary.org or call the library at 683-9457.

Note that this class was rescheduled to March 27 due to snow. Participants who had originally signed up are still in the class.
