ONLINE: LI Explorium STEAM Workshop:To the RescueWednesday August 5, 2020
2:00 PM until 2:45 PM
Grades 3 - 6
Join us for an interactive workshop where we design a rescue package to be air-dropped to a village cut off by floods. We will use the engineering design process to ensure that the rescue package arrives safely and intact, and explore multiple possible answers to the problem of cushioning a hard landing. How does the shape of the package affect the speed it travels through the air? What forces are acting on the box as it falls? How can we structure the box to try and protect the contents?
For this workshop you will need:
- Crackers (larger, brittle ones e.g. graham crackers are best)
- Paper (copy paper/construction paper/old newspaper…)
- String/pipecleaners/straws (optional)
- Plastic/paper bags (optional)
