Beyond the Book with Local Author Judy Lannon

Wednesday June 5, 2024
6:30 PM until 7:30 PM

Judy Lannon writes women’s contemporary fiction. Her debut novel, Nine Days, was published in March 2022 and has been recognized as a multi award-winning novel. In just 24 months, she has won 1st place with both the NYC Big Book Awards, and the Firebird Books Awards, 2 Silver Awards with the American Writers Association and was chosen as a runner-up with the PenCraft Awards in Women’s Fiction. Her second novel, The Making of Genevieve, was published in February 2024. She has written essays for Women’s Writers, Women’s Books Magazine, and finds joy in meeting her readers at her Beyond the Book events, where she shares her inspiring story of entering the publishing world with no background and ultimately achieving recognition as an award-winning writer. Judy has been a year-round resident of Cape Cod. She says the ocean inspires her creativity and is a reoccurring theme in her novels. She has been recognized as a genius at understanding human behavior and putting it on a page by the USA best-selling author, Barbara Conrey.

In Nine Days one phone call upends Sara Austin’s world. Out of town for a company conference, Sara she gets a call that her mother is in the hospital. As her reluctant Health Care Proxy, Sara relates, with humor and alcohol, how she and her siblings, each with plenty of baggage, maneuver the murky waters of dealing with an aging parent. In Nine Days by Judy Lannon, we learn to love and relate to Sara, a product of divorce, narcissism and alcoholism, as she works through a lifetime of self-doubt and unworthiness to emerge as a stronger, integrated woman.

In The Making of Genevieve, we learn the complexity that is Genevieve. We navigate the tumultuous road to her golden years, beginning as a teen on the picturesque shores of Newport, Rhode Island with her best friend, Nicky. Genevieve always strives for the best of everything-the perfect home, clothes, friends, and of course, the perfect man. For Genevieve, image is paramount. What happens when Genevieve's plans are challenged and the idyllic life she dreams of is placed in peril? Which leaves us to ask, "Does anyone really know their mother?"

Books will be for sale at the event, and Lannon will sign them after her presentation.
