Anne Tucker Roberts, a Scituate resident, will talk about her recently published book "Five Courageous Mothers, Raising Children with Down Syndrome." A former teacher of adolescents with developmental disabilities, Anne will talk about her experiences teaching these young people, and how she managed the interviews with the mothers that did not always go according to form.
In the book, Anne relates the powerful stories of 5 women who went against the advice of the medical profession, family and friends to raise their Down Syndrome children and demonstrate the true power of love and devotion. These heart warming stories leave the reader with new understandings of grit and love.
Anne Tucker Roberts is a gifted teacher and writer. For nearly two decades she taught adolescents with developmental disabilities. After 12 years in this position, Anne was recognized as a Master Teacher and awarded a "Golden Apple" for professional excellence. Anne left this rewarding career to care for elderly parents. During that time she began writing memoirs and completed two books. Her current book is the result of a new collaborative work between Anne and these remarkable mothers. Anne graduated from Boston College with a BA in Liberal Arts. She later earned a Master's in Education and a Master's in Special Education. She continues her work as a guardian to four women with developmental disabilities. She lives with her husband of 30 years in Scituate, MA.
