The 1969 Moon Landing: A Pittsburgh Connection - Speaker, Mike Suley

Friday January 11, 2019
1:00 PM until 2:00 PM

In January, we will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission. Before the historic 1969 moon landing NASA considered having the astronauts plant a U.N. Flag on the moon. Mike Suley was an advocate for planting a U.S. Flag and wrote many government officials with his opinion. Mike was surprised when he received a personal letter from Neil Armstrong a few months before his historic walk on the moon’s surface. Mike will talk about the Armstrong letter and the Space Race of the 1960’s. He will also talk about his connection to the Armstrong book and film “First Man” starring Ryan Gosling as Neil Armstrong.
