Common Core Strategic Planning

This session is designed to guide school and district -level instructional leaders in the work of
leading the understanding and implementation of the Common Core. This session is designed
to support teams of district and school personnel (e.g. superintendents, principals, content
supervisors, central office leaders, and coaches) in the work of planning and carrying out the
implementation of the Common Core State Standards. The session is designed in three parts:

Key shifts in the CCSS
Strategic planning using the NHDOE implementation framework
o Leadership
o Curriculum and Assessment
o Accountability
o Measuring implementation
Engaging stakeholders

Participating teams that attend this session will leave with a written plan that includes priority
objectives, measurements for implementation, and a strategic communications plan for
addressing the "transition".
Who Should Attend: Teams from schools or districts that are developing Common Core State
Standard implementation plans.
Level: Intermediate (some background on the standards will be shared, but the majority of the
time will be spent developing a plan for implementing the standards in your system). Your instructor, Dr. Joseph Miller is currently a educational consultant (independent and with SERESC) living in Lyme, NH working
with schools and districts in New Hampshire and Colorado on issues related to Common Core implementation,
special education performance, school turnaround, teacher quality, and program improvement. Dr. Miller most
recently served as Director of Instruction for the New Hampshire Department of Education overseeing the
department's Common Core implementation effort. Prior to moving to New Hampshire Dr. Miller served as Chief
Accountability, Evaluation and Strategy Officer in the Adams 14 School District in Commerce City, Colorado. In this
capacity he was responsible for Assessment and Research, Technology and Strategic Planning. Dr. Miller served
Adams 14 for seven and half years prior to relocating to New Hampshire in the summer of 2010. Registration begins at 8:30 and the session begins promptly at 9am. A light breakfast and lunch will be served. The cost for this workshop is $100 per person and checks or purchase order should be payable to ERCSD-SPDC.
