Sustainable Sakonnet is hosting a viewing of the award-winning documentary, "A Plastic Ocean", which chronicles a four-year global odyssey to explore the issue of plastics in our oceans and its effect on marine ecosystems and human health, including endocrine disruption. Sustainable Sakonnet, a local grassroots organization committed to environmental awareness, aspiration, and action within our local community, is hosting this screening as part of its campaign to get the Tiverton Town Council to enact a single-use plastic carry out bag ban in Tiverton. As of March 27th, 2018, seven communities in Rhode Island have already enacted similar bans (Barrington, Jamestown, Newport, Middletown, Portsmouth, Bristol, Providence), with Warren and North Kingstown pursuing bans along with Tiverton. As part of the screening, there will be a brief presentation about our campaign and the opportunity to lend your signature to our citizen petition.
