 Susie Klein: “BOSTON TO BARCELONA: A FAMILY AT SEA”
In 2005 Wayland resident Susie Klein, her husband and their two sons, then aged 14 and 16, sailed their 41-foot sailboat across the Atlantic, stopping in the Azores, Gibraltar, Morocco, Spain and the Balearic Islands. The 65-day voyage was the prelude to a sabbatical year living and working in France. Her intent was to share her passion for adventure and the sea with her sons and bind the family closer by escaping hectic lives ashore. With seven years’ hindsight, Susie will recount the adventure and its impact on her family.
Susie has had a 25-year career in journalism and investor relations. Her articles have been published in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Boston Globe, SAIL, Cruising World and the Wayland Town Crier. She recently returned to Wayland after two years of teaching English at universities in France and now teaches ESOL at Framingham State.
