Start of Middle School Poetry Week

Wayland Middle School will be alive with poetry during its annual WMS Poetry Week, April 22-26. Posters featuring joyful, funny, contemplative, and just plain goofy poems hang from the bulletin boards. The cafeteria windows celebrate poems about food and food as culture. Students play with magnetic poetry, our library puts poetry books into the hands and hearts of readers, and our daily announcements feature a complete the limerick—in the style of NPR’s “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me.” Our grandest celebration is the “Poem on your Locker.” Students choose a favorite poem, often one they have written, and transcribe it into a paper frame, decorate it, and post it on their lockers. WMS hallways will burst with colorful poetry.
