ARTIST OF THE MONTH: ED MOVITZ
Tuesday September 12, 2017
Ed Movitz is a professor emeritus from the Massachusetts College of Art where he taught Drawing and Painting and where he served as the Head of the Painting Department and as Dean of Undergraduate Studies. During his career as an artist, he has worked as a painter, printmaker and sculptor, exhibiting throughout New England.
Movitz will be exhibiting pen and ink drawings done in the last few decades. These drawings could be considered “internal ideas” in that they begin with no preconceived image but rather develop from the first stroke of the pen, each subsequent image growing from the previous one. Movitz deals with ubiquitous subjects: stars, auto wheels, clouds, lightning bolts, solar and lunar discs, aspects of the sea and boats, obelisks, portals, etc. with the goal of creating meaningful and dynamic relationships.
