Shimmies, Shivers, and Vibrations: A Revealing Look at Belly Dance
Wednesday March 29, 2017
2:00 PM until 3:30 PM
As part of our focus on Women's History Month, the library presents an ancient dance form that highlights the female form and brings with it the cultural flavors of countries like Egypt, Lebanon, and Turkey. Described in the 1800s as la danse du ventre, this “dance of the middle” is a celebration of female expression driven by fluid movement, curving patterns, and alluring dress.
Amethyst, a local dancer and belly dance expert, will lead an introduction to the dance’s history —rooted in folk art and village parties— and perform moves from a variety of styles of the form.
Join us for what will certainly be a moving afternoon dedicated to women, dance, and the power of the hips!
Designed as an interactive presentation open to all, you may choose to participate or simply observe from your seat.
